Why is Solar Panels Industry Seeing Cuts to Solar Panel Grants?

February 14th, 2012 | 0 Comments

Since the sudden announcement that the solar panels industry would see cuts to its solar panel grants in December, solar panels have filled the news but there is much confusion as to why the cuts must take place.

Solar Panels Industry Too Generous…

It was announced this week that any solar panels installed after the deadline on 3rd March would receive the lower Feed-In Tariff of 21p per kilowatt instead of 43.3p per kilowatt as it currently stands. Ministers have argued that that lowering cost of solar technology has made the solar panel grants too generous and thus has put a strain on the budget.

The increased numbers has threatened the ability to construct the technology needed for the numbers required over coming years. As a result, the Feed-In Tariff is to be cut in half to free up more budget for installations. In the long term, ministers believe the new plans will keep costs down to ensure more people can benefit from the tariff, however, many believe the lowered grant will deter people from installing solar panels altogether.

What’s more, the payment slash will put hundreds, if not thousands of jobs at risk as well as hit housing projects which aim to cut poor household bills. Although the new plan is significantly better than the original which would have seen cuts in December, the government’s proposals could leave many without jobs.

For most of us the most popular good cause would be themselves along with the possibility of that big win to make life more exciting plus the noble plot to help out our nearest and dearest but it’s pleasant to know that in the meantime we are contributing to some Charitable Works National Lottery results even if we haven’t got rich just yet.

The National Lottery has so far given away in excess of £25 billion to Charitable Events lotto. The precise amount given depends on sales, combination of sales, scale of unclaimed prizes and the total of interest on money waiting to be claimed but approximately 28% of the total revenue is expected to go to theCharitable Events and many of the extremely popular are celebrated at the National Lottery Awards celebration. Over 50% of the total income is given out in prizes with the government taking 12% in Lottery Duty euromillions. Outlets are paid 5% in sales compensation on the Draw-Based games and 6% on each Scratchcard which means average around £8,531 per year and working costs amount to around 4%.

Health, Education and Environmental charities have 50% of awards with the rest divided between Sports, Arts and Heritage euromillions results. The Bumble Bee Conservation Trust has benefitted as has the Isle of Wight Railway Restoration scheme and doubtless a Good Work near to all of us so keep buying, keep wishing and we will see the benefits.
